BANGALORE UNIVERSITY

New Shores has been affiliated with Bangalore University since 2006 (under its former name, Bangalore Management College) under College Code A1. The change of name in university affiliation is underway. The affiliation with Bangalore University covers all New Shores’ postgraduate and full-time undergraduate degree programmes, and degrees are awarded by the same university on successful completion of the study requirements as explained above.

Bangalore University is a public university located in Bangalore, Karnataka State, India. One of the oldest in India, it dates back to 1886. As a member of the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), it approaches the status of “Potential for Excellence” which is reserved for the top ten universities in India under the guidelines of the University Grants Commission of India (UGC). The University is engaged in research through the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with foreign and local universities, organisations and institutions. A number of its departments are identified by the UGC as Centers of Excellence.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE

New Shores has been associated and affiliated with the University of Mysore since 2011 with regard to the Computer Science and Management Studies postgraduate programmes. Upon successful completion of two years’ full-time study and a graduate dissertation, students are awarded a postgraduate degree from the University of Mysore.

The University of Mysore is a public university under the government of India. Founded during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV in 1916, its first chancellor was the Maharaja of Mysore. It has a long and proud history: it was the first university outside the domain of the British administration in India, the sixth in India as a whole, and the first ever in Karnataka. It is a state university of the affiliating type and is recognised by the UGC.

The University of Mysore has been ranked very highly by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the UGC with an A+ rating. On 29 February 2008, the Government of India identified the university as ‘an Institution of Excellence’ and awarded a special grant of Rs one billion in the 2008-2009 Union Budget. NB: It is in the interest of students and parents to know that the University of Mysore is often wrongly perceived as KSOU (Karnataka State Open University). New Shores is affiliated with the University of Mysore only, and has no association whatsoever with KSOU.

KARNATAKA PRE UNIVERSITY BOARD 

This is the state government organisation responsible for the implementation of higher education in the state of Karnataka. The PUB regulates 1202 government, 637 aided, 1936 unaided, and 165 bifurcated pre-university colleges. After completion of 10th grade/standard, i.e., Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC), approximately ten lakh students enroll in two-year pre-university courses in Karnataka.

THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF OPEN SCHOOLING (NIOS)*

Formerly the National Open School, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is the Board of Education for distance education under the Government of India. It was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development of the Government of India in 1989 to provide education to remote areas with the objective of increasing literacy and providing education to rural areas. It also offers vocational courses after high school.

It had a cumulative enrollment of 1.5 million students from 2004-2009 at secondary and senior secondary levels and enrols about 350,000 students annually, which makes it the largest open schooling system in the world.

The NIOS collaborates with the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) and UNESCO. It also has study centres for Indian expatriates in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Oman, Kuwait, Nepal, Canada and the United States (US). Please visit http://www.nos.org for more information.
